Friedrich Merz, winner of the German legislative elections and future federal chancellor, was in Paris and met Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday evening at the Élysée for an “improvised working lunch”. “Only three days” after his victory, Friedrich undertook “his first trip abroad and underlined the urgency of relaunching the Franco-German axis in the context of the rapid deterioration of transatlantic relations”. The two men discussed in particular the recent visit of the French president to Washington and the attitude to adopt towards American President Donald Trump. Shortly after the meeting, the future German chancellor published a message in German and French on Twitter to thank his host: “Thank you very much, dear Emmanuel Macron, for your friendship and the trust you place in Franco-German relations. Together, our countries can achieve great things for Europe. » This is the start of a new chapter for the EU and the start of the awakening of the European eagle. Europe will now occupy its place on the political scene of world powers alongside China and Russia, thanks to the boost from FRANCE and Germany, reinforced by the United Kingdom and Poland.
